Sharp is investing in your security
Sharp take the protection of your data seriously and we will continue to invest in our security to help protect the trust you place in us as a key technology supplier. Accordingly, a number of our internal systems and applications which hold personal data which we either control or process on your behalf will transfer to our new data centre in Switzerland during Q3/Q4 2024. In scope of this move is the data you have provided to us for the purposes of providing you with our services and transacting business with you. This is limited to employee names, work email address, work telephone numbers and work addresses.
Supporting this move, Switzerland has recently had its Adequacy Decision reaffirmed by the European Commission and Sharp has implemented the appropriate contractual safeguards with the Sharp entity which will be hosting the data. This provides you with the “adequate protection in respect of personal data” as required under EU and UK data protection legislation.
Unless we hear from you, we will assume that you consent to the move of any personal data we hold as described above. We are very happy to engage with you to provide any additional information or any further consent processes which require our input. Please contact us at GDPR.SBSNO@sharp.eu
By way of a further explanation, please find below a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section which hopefully addresses any questions you may have.
FAQ
Sharp understands it position as an important technology partner to our customers and we take the security of your data very seriously. As a part of our ongoing investment in our security, in 2021, Sharp acquired a company who specialised in data centre hosting and security. This move of our core IT infrastructure to a Sharp group company is designed to take advantage of these specialist skills and experience to help further protect your data.
Sharp processes very limited and low risk personal data for the purposes of providing you with our services and transacting business with you. This is limited to your employee names, work email address, work telephone numbers and work addresses.
In moving our datacentre to Switzerland, Sharp will be moving our key support systems (such as our Finance and Service systems). These systems will only contain data related to your employees and will therefore not pose a risk that you are in breach of your contracts with your customers.
Security of our systems and the availability of our services to our customers is of the utmost importance. Through the move to a Tier IV data centre, Sharp is investing in these two aspects by using the most fault-tolerant facilities which are ideal for the high levels of security and availability we require.
